The Origin of Mithi and Other Such Stories

It has existed quietly in the backgrounds of our lives, only perhaps expressing its angst at years of mistreatment by flooding every monsoon. In this map, stories about the Mithi River, forgotten, untold, unheard – have been expressed through characters inhabiting the river – the fiddler crab, the BMC fumigation authorities, the volunteers who clean the Mithi.
Hopes, regrets, and histories mingle to tell the story of the biggest character of Mumbai’s history – The Mithi River.
मिठी नदी, मुंबईकरांच्या जीवनाचा व अस्तित्त्वाचा असलेला एक महत्त्वपूर्ण घटक. गेली कित्येक वर्षे मुकपणे, आपले अस्तित्व जाणवू न देता ती वाहत आहे. फक्त ती कदाचित आपल्या गैरवर्तनावर संतापून दर पावसाळ्यात रौद्र रूप धारण करते. मिठी नदी बाबतच्या विस्मृतीत गेलेल्या, खूप कमी माहित असलेल्या, न ऐकलेल्या अनेक गोष्टी येथे नकाशाच्या माध्यमातून मांडल्या आहेत. फिड्डलर क्रॅब,
बृहन्मुंबई महानगर पालिकेच्या वतीने निर्जंतुकीकरण करणारे अधिकारी, मिठी नदी स्वच्छ करण्यासाठी झटणारे स्वयंसेवक यांच्या नजरेतून या गोष्टी तुमच्या समोर येतील. इतिहास, पश्चाताप व विश्वास यांची एकत्र सांगड घालून मुंबईच्या दृष्टीने सर्वात महत्त्वाच्या नदीची कहाणी तुम्हाला सांगत आहोत. 'मिठी ची गोष्ट'.
